Technology Challenge

For our school wide technology challenge we decided to make a pulley that would raise a flag up a flag pole. We discussed what our brief was and what specifications were needed before embarking on our design process.  I am very impressed with the designs that Room 8 has come up with. We have some very inventive students!!

Musical Monday

We have music every Monday morning. The children were making some greats sounds today

Robots

Today we are robot programmers.  We are creating a set of instructions that a robot could follow.  Our instructions must be correct or they might end up going the wrong way

Postcard Predictions

Today we were looking at the reading strategy 'predicting'. The children went around the tables predicting where all of the 'postcards' were from. They had to work as a group and talk about what languages might be spoken in that country, what foods might be eaten, what types of clothing might be worn and what kinds of activities might they do in a place like this. Predicting is an important strategy for readers as it helps them to anticipate what they are reading. It encourages them to become active readers.

Subtracting in Tens

The Crunchies Maths group were learning how to subtract in tens, they were enjoying working out the problems on their whiteboard's. There was lots of thinking going on!

Lorax reading group

The Lorax reading group had just read a story about Korean children coming to New Zealand. Once the session was over they discussed in their group some of the differences that there are between Korea and NZ
